![]() ![]() Unplugged was so popular because it was his first significant public appearance following the death of his son Connor which unfortunately was worldwide tabloid news…. Prior to unplugged, Clapton was so big that he did 42 nights at the Royal Albert Hall in England, which was documented both in a video release and live album release called 24 nights. Note: this era of Clapton is what John Mayer is currently ripping off with huge success. He has huge sponsorships including with Michelob and was also doing soundtrack work such as for the movie Rush. You didn’t even mention blind faith or Derek and the dominoes or the fact that his solo career in the 70s was massiveĬlapton had released Journeyman in 89 which was accompanied by a massive world tour. No offense but I don’t need a early history lesson on Clapton. I still adore the PJ performance as is, though. ![]() Can you imagine if they had asked PJ back for a repeat performance in like '96 or something? Oh, man, that would have killed. It doesn't mean they necessarily played any better than PJ, but they simply had a better opportunity to put forth a better show because of the circumstances of the respective performances (as PJ's was on short notice, Ed was sick, and they only had the one album out at the time). Also, what I love about that performance is that, not only did they do some killer acoustic versions of their own songs (that version of Pennyroyal Tea is a favorite of mine), but they also really stretched their wings with covers of songs by other artists ("Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" and "Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam" stand out for me). ![]() I mean, on volume (of tracks played) alone, they take the prize. But that said, I think Nirvana's Unplugged performance was a step above. If you're asking me who I like better, Pearl Jam or Nirvana, it's Pearl Jam all day long (I love Nirvana, too, but PJ has been my favorite band since they hit the scene). Soundgarden - Matt Cameron is the drummer!!! (If you know of a band/artist that's not on this list, let us know, if you think there's one on here that doesn't belong - keep it to yourself).
